Is my bet still valid if I lose connection?
A bet exists on the operator's server, not on your phone. Once the server has accepted it — you saw the confirmation and it appears in your open bets — it will be settled on the result, whether or not you are online. Losing your connection does not cancel, pause or void it.
The question that matters is whether the bet was accepted before the connection dropped. If you pressed "place bet" and the screen froze, there are three possibilities: the request never reached the server, it reached the server and was rejected, or it was accepted and the confirmation never reached you. You only find out by checking your bet history when you are back online. Do not place the same bet again until you have checked, or you may end up with it twice.
Why does in-play betting have a delay?
Live betting markets usually hold your bet for a few seconds before accepting it. The delay protects the bookmaker from bets placed by people watching a faster feed. For you, it means a bet placed just before a power cut may be accepted or rejected after your screen has already gone dark. If the odds moved during the delay, the bet may be rejected or offered back at the new price, depending on your settings.
What happens to cash-out?
Cash-out is an offer, not a right. It is available only while the market is open and you are connected to accept it. While you are offline you cannot take it, and the bet runs to the end on its original terms. If you had planned to cash out at half-time, load shedding has made that decision for you.
Some operators let you set an automatic cash-out in advance, triggered when the offer reaches a value you choose. Where that exists, it runs on the server and works while you are offline. Check whether your operator offers it and how it is triggered.
And a casino game?
Online casino games work on the same principle. The result of a slot spin or a blackjack hand is decided on the game server when the round starts. If the connection drops:
- Slots usually complete the spin on the server and credit any win to your balance. When you reconnect, the game often replays or shows the result of the interrupted round.
- Table games such as blackjack may resume where you left off, or complete the hand on a default action set out in the game rules.
- Live dealer games continue without you. A bet placed before betting closed stands, and the round is settled normally.
Every game's help screen has a section on "malfunctions" or "disconnections". It takes one minute to read, and it is the binding rule if there is a dispute.
How do I check what happened?
- Reconnect and open your bet history or game history, not just your balance.
- Find the bet or round by time. Note whether it was accepted, and at what odds.
- If something looks wrong, take a screenshot and contact support with the bet or round ID. Operators log every request, so they can see exactly when your bet arrived.
How do I prepare for the next stage?
- Check the schedule for your area before a match or a session, and do not start something you cannot finish.
- Place pre-match rather than in-play if a cut is due during the game.
- Keep the router on backup power — a small UPS or power bank keeps fibre or a fixed-LTE router running for hours. Remember that the tower or exchange needs power too.
- Use the operator's app rather than a browser tab if it reconnects more cleanly on your phone.
- Set deposit and session limits while you are calm. A late-night chase after a power cut has cost you a cash-out is exactly the moment those limits are for — our responsible gambling guide shows where to find them.
Does a power cut ever void a bet?
Not on your side. Bets can be voided because of problems on the operator's side or the event itself — a postponed match, an abandoned race, an obvious pricing error — and those rules are in the operator's terms. A cut at your house or your local tower is not one of them. Our guides to draw no bet and pushes in football betting explain the cases when a stake really is returned.
Quick answers
I was disconnected during a bonus round. Have I lost it?
Usually not. Most slots save the state of a bonus round and resume it when you return to the same game. Check the game's help screen.
Can I claim compensation for a missed cash-out?
No. Cash-out offers are discretionary and depend on you accepting them while online.
